KICK-ASS

I just can't wait, in 43 days and change the first big screen RLSH movie will make it's premier. What will this mean for the RLSH community? A big boost in membership? More criticism about their unorthodox actions? Absolutely nothing?

Looking back at movie trends, films based in reality have more of an impact then fantasy. Sure sure I know someone is going to point out the legions of fans that dress up like Storm Troopers, or Vulcan's. But until those people start building a space station or interstellar space craft they are in a separate category.

Take a look at the Dirty Harry films of the 1970's and 80's. After these films became popular the famous hand gun he carried the 44 magnum became one of the best selling fire arms of the period. In fact so much so the market is still flooded with unused models. After the release of every Disney movie with a dog featured people run out and purchase one of those sweet and funny animals. Then promptly after it is no longer a puppy and considered "cute" off to the pound it goes.

Kick-Ass is interesting as this is art imitating life which is imitating art.

Will this movie result in hundreds of new RLSH members taking to the street? Or will this be just a movie that will be forgotten in a year and sit in a dust covered box next to the Electra movie at the local video barn?

  1. I can almost foresee this being a double-edged sword for the RLSH community. On the one hand they get more members, but the other: the possibility of more people following the tread to become an exercise in 'quantity over quality'.

What with more people it'll be more likely that someone goes vigilante and puts a big black-eye on the face of the RLSH collectives reputation.

  2. Like the community isn't an overall black eye already...

If the RLSH had resisted endorsing this movie from the get-go, they might have been able to avoid said black eye if something does happen... to be on the safe side, they should have really rejected this movie and any parallels it drew in regards to the community... Now they've left themselves wide open and publicly connected to the film.

It's just not smart. Could have been avoided. Oh well, I've got my ducks in a row if the shit hits the fan.

  3. a big concern now is all the kids signing up to play superhero and then its going to be a bunch of little emo wannabe heroes running around the streets, then they will move onto the next trend when they realize they cant break the law to do their "work" and someone will find them and the cops will definitely find them. That or they will get bored with it like they do with everything else.

  4. then there is going to be the group of them that make wild claims more than rlsh already do, and its going to end up a bunch of empty profiles after a month or two, and it will be even more impossible to tell who is really out there. Think about the fake meet ups that could take place, a bunch of friends pretending to go out and meet up, it will take away every last bit of legitimacy and dignity that area of the RLSH had as a movement. Then it will be the others that truly represent what they are trying to do that will step out and take over.

Just out of curiosity Z, is there a specific name the project you are working on?

  5. I'm going to wait on the reveal, if you don't mind. I'd rather not have everyone polluting it like these blogs get polluted. No offense, it's just that there's a pretty good level of positivity going on with it, and it's gearing up to non-exclusive to the RLSH community, although the more realistic ones are welcome to join.

If you really want to know, you can find me privately.
